Beach Colony Resort Partnering with the March of Dimes

Beach Colony Resort is raising money for the March of Dimes this spring.

March of Dimes is a long-standing non-profit that has been helping prevent premature births and keep mothers healthy during pregnancy for the past 75 years. According to the March of Dimes, one in every nine babies are born prematurely in the United States. Last year South Carolina had a preterm birthrate of 14.1%. The March of Dimes works to lower these rates through research, education and awareness.

Crystal Hummer, executive director of the Myrtle Beach March of Dimes, said this effort is an important one.

“By helping mothers and doing constant research, we can help save so many lives,” Hummer said. “These little unborn babies deserve the best care so they can enter the world healthy and happy.”

Beginning on March 1 until May 4, Vacation Myrtle Beach resorts will be collecting money for this non-profit group in a variety of ways.

“We are so excited to be working with VMB resorts,” Hummer said. “They are so dedicated to helping with this cause and we know their guests are as well.”

This is the first year VMB resorts have helped raise money as a group for March of Dimes, however, individual resorts and employees have been involved with March of Dimes in the past, including Georgana Brown who is an employee at Carolina Winds Resort.

“I have been heavily involved with fundraising and supporting the March of Dimes for years now. To be able to be involved with it through our resort group and join together with my coworkers to make a difference is something I am really looking forward to,” Brown said.

Guests will be able to donate online when they book, at the front desk when they check in or over the phone. Name cards will be posted on the wall behind the check-in desks with the names of all who donated.

“We hope that if guests will donate, even if they can only give a dollar. One dollar from multiple people can add up fast. Imagine how many babies we can help,” Brown said.

Employees will also be actively involved in the March of Dimes fundraising, said Matt Klugman of Vacation Myrtle Beach.

“The managers and employees always get creative to find ways to raise money,” Klugman said. “They will often do fun contests and challenges to involve everyone in a fun and meaningful way.”

At the end of the fundraiser, on May 4, Vacation Myrtle Beach resort employees and their families will walk in the March for Babies event at TicketReturn.com Field in Myrtle Beach. This three-mile walk is organized by the Pee Dee Division of the March of Dimes and will begin at 9:30 a.m. with registration starting at 8:30 a.m.

In addition, everyone is invited to donate through the Vacation Myrtle Beach Team Page on the March of Dimes website. Individuals can also join the team to help fundraise and optionally walk with us in the event.

“We hope everyone will join us in raising money for the March of Dimes. We truly can make a difference,” said Klugman.
